| Diabetic diets can of course be achived if you just buy a diabetic cooking magazine but try out our links first - or feel free to experiment with your own recipes according to our guidelines. You should always check your meal planning with your physician or dietist, remember that a diabetes diet is for life and you need to be strict about it. Vegetarian diabetic recipes A vegetarian diabetic diet including a wide range of different foods like potatoes, lentils and beans, wholemeal bread etc is a very good base to start with. Instead of the "normal" calorie counting, you will need to start counting carbs with the aim to make sure you get enough carbohydrates - ideally more than 50% - in your food. There has been reports on improvements from diabetics using a vegetarian diet - even to an extent where they could start injecting less insulin. It works well as a type 2 diabetes diet. A good vegetarian cook book - is a good start, you will still need to "count carbs" but it will be much easier in your meal planning and when creating diabetic diets.
